Easter Saturday, falling the day before Easter Sunday, is an official public holiday in six Australian jurisdictions: the ACT, NSW, NT, QLD, SA, and VIC. Situated in the middle of the four-day Easter break, it grants eligible workers a gazetted day off or public holiday penalty rates, while Western Australia and Tasmania treat it as an ordinary Saturday.

In Christian ecclesiastical tradition, the day prior to Easter Sunday is known as Holy Saturday or Easter Eve, marking the period of solemn waiting following the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on Good Friday. Historically, church observances involved quiet reflection throughout the day, culminating in an evening Easter Vigil service to herald the resurrection.

As statutory public holiday frameworks developed across Australian states and territories during the twentieth century, several jurisdictions formally gazetted the Saturday between Good Friday and Easter Sunday as a public holiday. This ensured that retail, hospitality, and essential service staff working over the long weekend received fair holiday entitlements. In Australia, Easter Saturday is a vibrant day for recreation, travel, and social events. Many families spend the day camping, visiting parks, or attending major annual events such as the Sydney Royal Easter Show or the National Folk Festival in Canberra. In Christian churches, evening Easter Vigil services take place, featuring light ceremonies and baptismal renewals. Unlike Good Friday, when trading restrictions keep most major retailers closed, Easter Saturday sees shopping centres, markets, and supermarkets open for business, making it one of the busiest retail days of the holiday period.
